STRESS: An Interactive Sound Installation
At Engelsholm Højskole, I created an immersive sound installation exploring stress, mental health, and identity through the voices and experiences of young people.
Inspired by my own journey through stress, I wanted to build a space where time could pause. A full-body experience of immersion, where noise and silence merge, and thought might momentarily switch off.
An built on interviews I conducted with 20 students, who shared their personal reflections on mental health, stress, and self-perception. These recordings became the raw material for a 360° surround soundscape, which participants could physically interact with through water-based sound triggers, visual exhibits, and tactile elements.
The piece invited visitors to lie down, move around, and engage with the evolving sonic environment, while shaping it through their presence and touch. Themes of vulnerability, pressure, addiction, and coping unfolded organically in the room, reflecting both the chaos and the stillness found in moments of overwhelm.
Beyond offering a space for reflection, the work aimed to destigmatize conversations about stress and mental health, fostering connection and collective resonance among participants.
